Would you prefer a job in a clean, air-conditioned office, or would you like to jump into a job that requires heavy protective gear and working in downright filthy conditions? Most people would choose the former, but others have found great satisfaction and success in so-called dirty jobs (though, of course, not everyone who has a dirty job has one by choice--many dirty jobs are also dangerous and low-paying).


Here are some of the world's dirtiest jobs:

Wastewater-Treatment Technician
Do you ever wonder where all the water you use goes at the end of the day? Every time you flush a toilet or run the dishwasher, that water heads through a series of pipes and ends up at a wastewater-treatment plant. Wastewater-treatment technicians then work to remove pollutants from the water before it's released back into streams, rivers, and oceans. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), wastewater-treatment technicians earned a median annual wage of $39,850 in 2009.


Dung Curator
According to Popular Science magazine, the members of the Quarternary Paleontology team from Northern Arizona University have one of the ten worst jobs in science. These folks curate "the largest collection of excrement in the world." The job also entails collecting these special treasures from zoos and archaeological digs. The reason for doing this? To research DNA, plant matter in the dung, and climate.

Cave Biologist
Does the thought of crawling around in a dark, enclosed, and damp space sound like a good time? Maybe not, but when you throw in the wonders that can be found in underground caverns, from the interesting colonies of bats to the amazing eyeless fish in dark waters, you might start to see the appeal of working as a cave biologist. Biological scientists enjoy annual salaries of $66,510, according to BLS reports.

Crime-Scene Cleanup
Dealing with the aftermath of violent crimes and accidents is not something that most relatives and friends of lost loved ones can handle. That's where crime-scene cleanup crews come in. They sweep in after investigators are done with a crime scene and do their best to return it to its original condition.

Disaster Cleanup
Major disasters leave a lot of debris in their wake. From tornadoes that rip open homes and throw insulation everywhere, to floods that can leave several feet of brown mud when the water recedes, natural disasters can lead to messy and even dangerous cleanup jobs.

Garbage Collector
You know how you hate taking out the trash? Imagine doing it eight hours a day, week in and week out. This is the job of the garbage collector. These guys and gals must work in all sorts of weather (and in many municipalities, garbage collection happens year-round--even on major holidays). Wages vary greatly, but the median hourly pay for a garbage collector with five years of experience is around $20 in many states, according to PayScale.com's salary calculator.

Hospital Laundry Employee
Rotting food and bodily waste are the least of a hospital launderer's worries. Hospital linens often come straight to the laundry after being scooped up from the operating room or hospital beds. Hazardous fluids and even dangerous medical instruments and needles may be mixed in with the laundry.

Kitchen-Exhaust Cleaner
Commercial kitchens get cruddy and gunked up with grease. If the grease isn't cleaned, fires and unhappy health inspectors can result. Caustic chemicals, pressure washers, or sometimes a combination of both are used in cleaning, and gunk must sometimes be scraped off before washing begins. The stuff that comes off is so unpleasant that it can't be washed down a drain. It must be hauled away.

Poultry Processor
Gizzards and guts and offal, oh, my! While it's pretty easy to imagine that any job location where animals are being changed into food might not be the cleanest place in town, poultry processors have it worse than most. On top of being filthy, the work is achingly repetitive, and injuries are common.

Zookeeper
This is a job many kids have aspired to--and let's face it, zookeeping is pretty cool. Where there are animals, however, there's usually a mess. Exhibit and living areas must be kept clean of debris and waste. Mike Rowe, star of the reality TV show "Dirty Jobs," compares it to cleaning a cougar-sized cat-litter box. Animals must also be fed. If you work with aquatic animals, for example, you may end up knee-deep in fish guts. This job, which pays $19,550 per year, can be highly competitive, despite the low pay and dirty work.

One of the most difficult decisions that a student has to make is in choosing the right degree. Four years, or sometimes even more, in a university is no joke. Getting stuck in a degree that does not interest you would only waste money, time and effort. There are extensive lists of degrees in countless universities and colleges all over the world. One university that offers a selection of different programs is shorter college . The range is vast from a degree in business administration to a degree in fine arts. Here are some questions that a student can ask himself when deciding:


What are my strengths and weaknesses?

If you are good in numbers, then you should take a degree wherein there would be lots of Algebra or Calculus.

What are my interests?

You cannot force a cube in a hole and have a perfect fit. You need to know what you like doing, what doesn’t bore you, what inspires you.

What courses are available?

Look at the courses in the school that you have chosen. There are schools that specialize in film production while there are those that focus on business administration. Shorter University Degree Programs have an array of degrees that one can easily choose from.

What kind of career do I want?

Think of your life after finishing school. Where do you see yourself? Do you see yourself working in a strict office environment or do you see yourself saving the world one patient at a time?

Thinking is a powerful faculty of human mind. Education is a powerful tool to progress. We are living in an era in which education has become a stressful area of life for both children and parents. The need to excel and emerge victorious is every parent's goal as much as it is for the child. The competition spirit is far exceeding the limits of endurance and reasonableness as more and more children feel stressed out and like a failure if they don't get “high” grades while the benchmark for “high” grades only keeps increasing.


Even the best CBSE school or a top international school is primarily measured with the yardstick of its academic performance, or in other words, through ranks and such systems. There is no wrong in it, in fact this the mark of how good the educational institution is as a choice. But the method in which education in imparted and the systems being implemented differs within each group of the so-called acclaimed institutions. What sets apart the healthy mode of learning is the factors stressed upon during education.

Preschool education is often ignored or treated merely as a play school learning. But it is the basic and building block of the student's interaction with learning, and is therefore of immense importance. If you look at the best matriculation school in Chennai or a top higher secondary school in Mumbai or any other competent school within the city, the learning curriculum may be similar or same. Developing a humane attitude and instilling in the child's mind about education as a need and an interesting means to personal development is the point of true success for a school.

While most schools do not succeed, even if they do at the obvious & surface levels, there are sadly only a few which actually make an impact in encouraging children towards stress-free education and making education interesting for them. Only the best of faculty can really “train the minds to think”. All of us have both good and bad things to say about the educational system. But we do not take steps to make the good things better and converting the bad things into good. The lion's share of economic progress may be attributed to education. The awareness created by education makes for analysis and utilization of better opportunities. Good investments too are the results of wise learning. It is therefore the oil for the wheel of progress.

To curb the trend of increasing numbers of students' suicides and to make education interesting to children, they need to be first taught to appreciate knowledge and learning as an activity. Children should be treated with respect as growing individuals and not as high-score brewing machines. Their unique talents or inclinations to a healthy and creative aspect of one's personality has to be appreciated and allowed to be developed. Only a well-experienced teacher can bring out the best resources of a student and help him or her identify strengths and lacking nodes. Atleast 90% of us would agree to the fact that we never found education interesting during our schooldays, irrespective of whether 10 years or 50 years back. It was always either a role-model teacher or a teacher friend who made us realize the value of education and helped us understand the seemingly insurmountable subjects. To some of us it could have been mathematics, to a few others it could have been science and so on.

Teaching is one of the noblest professions in the world. Making it nobler is the power of teaching fraternity. Systems, practices and attitude of imparting education can make a significant change and influence students' lives. This change can emerge to be a sea change in shaping the tomorrow of the child and the society in which he or she lives in and will continue to be a part of. Learn to Speak the French Language Program

Have you ever wanted to or thought about learning French? I've looked all around the internet for different program, all teaching different languages in different ways. I found a few different products, but one looks really promising called Rocket Language. So far the learning techniques all seem legit and look like they will work, but I have just looked around them a little bit. I wanted to learn French to visit France one day. Anyway the program is pretty cool because there is visual aids, vocabulary games, and other methods of learning to speak. The downloadable version instead of the CD hard copy version that is twice the money. I'm still thinking about getting it or not. Do you want to learn a second language? If so I suggest you check that program out, it's less money than a lot of others, and uses same methods and more. There are other popular programs out there though like Rosette Stone, some make you pay extra payment for all lessons so make sure you know what you're buying before your buying it. They all use different methods though, and some work better than others, but a lot use the same methods too. If you need help with anything look around for reviews and such to find the right product. There are all kinds of great review sites out there that show sites that have the best deals. If you would like to learn a new language look around and definitely check out that one program that I mentioned earlier. Or at least look around for other programs, reviews of people that have used the program already is always what I look for. Helping Children Take Control of Their Learning

Too often children and parents experience dissatisfaction and disillusionment in the educational process. Parents can feel frustrated in their efforts to help their child succeed. How can parents help their child be successful and find joy in learning? Parents can help their children thrive in school, and in life, by having realistic expectations of their children’s abilities and by helping them to develop independent work habits.


Leslie was helping her eight-year-old son, Ben, study for his weekly spelling test. Ben was fidgety, jumping out of his chair, running to the refrigerator for a snack. His mind was on anything and everything but learning spelling words. Leslie was losing patience. After all, she had other things to do tonight and she still needed to fix dinner. If only she could get Ben to take this seriously.


Working successfully with a child on schoolwork requires understanding of the child’s developmental abilities. Leslie could have asked herself why Ben was reluctant to work with her to memorize the spelling words. Perhaps Leslie was asking Ben to spell words out loud rather than writing them down, which is a more effective method for most students.


Perhaps Leslie was expecting Ben to sit quietly in a chair for longer than was comfortable for him. It is very common for parents to expect a child to remain quiet and still during learning activities, but research has proven that brains function better when movement is part of the learning process. Most children need to move every fifteen minutes or so in order to concentrate. Making movement part of the activity is a great way to stimulate optimal learning and also interest and joy in learning.


If Leslie had decided to put movement into the activity and had also made an effort to capitalize upon Ben’s natural gift for wonder and fun, she could have presented the activity to Ben as a game. He would not only have been delighted to practice his spelling words, he would also have learned them more quickly and Leslie would have had a good time too. For example, Leslie could have left pieces of a jigsaw puzzle in various places around the room and each time Ben wrote the correct spelling of a word, he would have been allowed to get a piece of the puzzle. When all of the pieces were collected, he could put the puzzle together. The time he would spend putting together the puzzle would not only be his reward for correct spelling, it would be a rest break before the next learning activity.


Leslie could encourage Ben’s efforts to work independently. Frequently, in their desire to help their child achieve, parents set the bar too high, expecting more from their child than is reasonable under the circumstances. If expectations are unrealistic, students practice failure more than they practice success. They learn to avoid schoolwork rather than to relish their accomplishments. Leslie could have helped Ben to make a plan for how to learn the spelling words. The plan may have included writing each word five times while spelling it out loud as Ben walked around the room, mobilizing his whole brain for learning by incorporating movement into the activity. The next step in the plan could have been a test of the words while Ben balanced on one foot (strange as it sounds, research confirms that students pay better attention when engaging in balancing activities). And the plan could also have included a five to ten minute break (maybe to put together a puzzle) after completing the test.


Developing independent work habits allows a child to feel like a successful learner. The feeling of success encourages more focus and commitment. Parents can help their child most by clearly expressing confidence in their child’s ability to succeed. Children who are encouraged to believe in success are much more likely to persist when the going gets tough. They do not become discouraged by minor set backs. They understand the control they have in their educational experience.


One aspect of independent work habits is good time management skills. Helping children develop strong time management skills improves their grades and gives them the opportunity to spend more time with their family and friends. Leslie could monitor the amount of time Ben spends on each assignment. For example, Leslie could tell Ben that he has thirty minutes to practice spelling words, and if he gets at least 90 percent correct on the practice test, that he can use any time left from the thirty minutes for an activity of his choice.


Leslie could work more effectively with Ben by incorporating movement and fun into homework activities and by developing strategies and routines for homework management. When parents take a child’s proclivities into account in teaching independent work habits, the mood around the home is improved and parents as well as children have fun and feel the success and joy in schoolwork.
